How to test headset mic?

A quick testing guide suitable for everyone, requiring no professional equipment, covering both mobile phones and computers.

Method 1: Mobile Phone Recording

1. Locate the built-in "Voice Memos" (iPhone) or "Sound Recorder" (Android) app on your phone.

2. Plug your headphones into your phone, start recording (speak normally), stop, and play back.

3. How to determine the recording quality?

  • Clear and loud: Microphone is working properly.
  • Sound is present but very faint: May be a microphone sensitivity issue, or the headphone plug may not be properly inserted.
  • No sound at all: Check the phone connection, or the headphone microphone may be damaged.
  • Noise or static: Microphone or cable may have a hardware problem.

Method 2: Computer Users

1. Windows: Start -- Find "Sound Recorder" -- Start recording -- Stop and play back.

2. macOS:

  • Open "Launchpad" -> "Other" folder -> Find and open "QuickTime Player".
  • In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click "File" -> "New Audio Recording".
  • After finishing, click the stop button again. You can then play back the audio via the menu bar: "Edit" -> "Trim".

Method 3: Online Microphone Testing Website

  • For example, visit this website: https://www.onlinemictest.com/
  • The website will ask for permission to access your microphone; be sure to click "Allow".
  • After granting permission, you will see a dynamic volume bar. Speak directly into the microphone. If you see the volume bar change color and turn green as your voice moves, it means the microphone is working properly.
